Adless on Fire TV
Not in the Amazon Appstore. Installed with Downloader, like the rest of this category.
Install
- On the Fire TV, open Settings - My Fire TV - Developer options and turn on Apps from unknown sources. On newer Fire OS the switch appears per app, after the next step.
- Install Downloader from the Amazon Appstore (search for it by name).
-
Open Downloader and enter the code 2677471, or type
cdn.adlessplayer.com/adless-firestick.apk. - When the download finishes, choose Install, then Open.
Direct link: https://cdn.adlessplayer.com/adless-firestick.apk. The file is the same release as the Google Play one, signed with the same key, so a later version installs over it.
Bring your subscription
A Fire TV has no Google Play, so it cannot start a subscription, and the app says so when you open the plans. It can carry one, though: the subscription bought on your phone follows the backup code.
- On your phone or tablet, subscribe in the app as usual.
- Still on the phone, open Settings - Sync and backup and turn it on. Write the recovery code down; it is the only key to the backup.
- On the Fire TV, choose Restore from a backup code on the first screen, or later under Settings - Sync and backup, and enter the code.
The playlists arrive and the subscription is recognised at once. The seven-day free period applies on the TV as on any device, so there is time to do this after installing.
Questions
Is this the same app as the one on Google Play?
Yes, the same release, built for the ARM processors every Fire TV has. It checks adlessplayer.com for updates instead of Google Play, and tells you here when a newer one is ready.
Why is it not in the Amazon Appstore?
It was submitted four times and turned down each time on a content-policy finding Amazon would not attach to any screen or line of text. Adless ships no channels and no playlists; Amazon has not said what it objects to, so there is nothing to change. The installation route on this page is the one the rest of this category uses.
The TV says nothing can be bought here.
Correct: a Fire TV has no Google Play, so it cannot start a subscription. Subscribe on your phone or tablet, turn on backup in its Settings, and enter the backup code on the TV. The subscription arrives with the playlists.
Does the backup code leave my devices?
No. The code is the key to your encrypted backup and is never sent to us. What the TV shares with the subscription service is an account id derived from the code, which cannot be turned back into it.
Will Amazon block a sideloaded app?
Fire OS blocks apps Amazon has identified as providing pirated content. Adless provides no content at all. Nothing prevents Amazon from changing that list, and this page will say so if it happens.
